Process
How a forest time works
You don't need any experience with meditation. Just sturdy shoes and the willingness to slow down for a while.
Getting acquainted
A short conversation by phone or WhatsApp: What are you looking for, what do you need right now?
Choosing a place
Together we find the place that suits you – from Glatzenstein to the Druidenhain.
In the forest
Slow walking, conscious perception, silence and short impulses. No programme to tick off.
Winding down
Time to reflect and to ask questions. In the end, nothing has to come of it.
Frequently asked questions
Here you will find answers to the questions I am asked most often – about the process, the effects and the limits of forest bathing and sylvotherapy. Your question is not listed? Just write to me, I will answer you personally.
Process and appointments
How does a forest bathing session work?
We meet at a selected forest location and start with a short arrival exercise so you can leave everyday life behind.
Then we move through guided mindfulness and sensory exercises, slow walking over short distances and periods of silence. At the end there is a shared round – often over a cup of tea – where you can share what you experienced. You do not have to say anything if you do not want to.
How long does a session last and where does it take place?
A forest bathing session usually lasts about one to two and a half hours. We only cover short distances – it is about mindfulness, not hiking.
The meeting points are in the Nuremberg area, Nürnberger Land, Franconian Switzerland and the Hersbrucker Alb. You will receive the exact location and directions in good time before your appointment.
What should I bring?
Weatherproof, comfortable clothing in layers, sturdy shoes and a water bottle. A small sitting pad is helpful but not essential.
I bring everything else – such as blankets or tea – if it is announced in the invitation.
What happens in bad weather?
Forest bathing takes place in almost any weather – rain or fog often make the forest especially intense to experience.
Only in storms or thunderstorms do we reschedule. In that case I will contact you in good time and we will find an alternative date together.
Who the offer is for
Who is forest bathing suitable for?
For anyone who wants to slow down, reduce stress or experience nature more consciously. You need no prior knowledge – just a willingness to embrace slowness.
People in demanding phases of life, with exhaustion or a wish for more mindfulness, will find a protected space here.
Do I need to be fit or experienced in hiking?
No. The distances are short and the pace follows the group. There are regular breaks, and you can skip any exercise at any time.
If you have mobility or health limitations, talk to me beforehand – we will find a solution that suits you.
Are there offers for groups or teams?
Yes, I also guide private groups, teams or clubs – for example for a mindful team outing or a special day in the forest.
Just write to me how many people you are and what you have in mind, and I will put together a suitable offer for you.
Effects of forest bathing
How does forest bathing affect body and mind?
Studies on Shinrin-Yoku, the Japanese practice of forest bathing, show falling cortisol levels, a calmer heartbeat and lower blood pressure. Many participants report better sleep and a more balanced mood.
The essential oils of trees – the so-called terpenes – are also suspected of supporting the immune system. What matters to me: the forest works best without performance pressure. You are allowed to simply be there.
How quickly do you notice an effect?
Many people feel their breath and thoughts calm down during the very first session. That is a first, valuable effect.
The effect becomes more lasting when you regularly spend time in nature – I am happy to support you with exercises you can also practise on your own.
Scientific limits
Is sylvotherapy a medical or psychotherapeutic treatment?
No. Sylvotherapy and forest bathing are offers for health promotion and self-care – they do not replace medical diagnosis, treatment or psychotherapy.
If you are in an acute crisis or undergoing treatment, please discuss participation with your doctor or therapist. I am happy to accompany you in addition to that.
How solid is the research on forest bathing?
Research on Shinrin-Yoku is promising: there is evidence of positive effects on stress, blood pressure and mood. At the same time, many studies are small or hard to compare – the science here is still in its early stages.
That is why I deliberately make no promises of healing. I invite you to experience the effect yourself, and I share honestly what research can deliver – and what it cannot.
